Obituary: The Daily Item -- Sunbury, PA

I. M. Hornberger Dies at Age of 82

Irvin M. Hornberger, retired carpenter, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday [April 11, 1948] at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Phillips, at Plum Creek, after an illness extending back to January. He was 82 years of age. For the past 16 years he and his wife had resided at 404 Fairmount Avenue and about a month ago they went to live with their daughter when Mr. Hornberger’s condition grew worse.
He and his wife, the former Amelia Wolfe [sic], celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary October 3, 1947.
Mr. Hornberger was born April 25, 1866, the son of John and Lydia Wolf Hornberger. He spent a great part of his life in Rockefeller township where he was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Wolf’s Cross Roads Church.
Surviving besides his daughter and his wife are three other children, Dolan Hornberger, Sunbury R. D. 3; Mrs. Harold Weiser, Salinas, Calif., and Arthur Hornberger, Camden, N. J.; two brothers, Luther A. Hornberger, Rockefeller Township, and William Johnson Hornberger, Sunbury; ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Wirt’s Funeral Home Cliftmont. Rev. Bron Somers, of Hamilton, will officiate assisted by Rev. John Harkins of Snydertown. Burial will be in Wolf’s Cross Roads Cemetery. There will be a viewing at Wirt’s Tuesday evening.
