— SUNBURY — After 89 years, Dorothy Elizabeth Phillips Brosious, of 266 East Drive, Sunbury, PA completed her life’s journey and went to live with our Lord on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, with family by her side. She was active and happy until the last days of her life.
She was born and raised on her parents dairy farm in Plum Creek, Rockefeller Township, Sunbury, on Jan. 15, 1922, the daughter of the late Julius and Ada Mabel (Hornberger) Phillips.
She married her sweetheart, Marlin Lewis Brosious on June 8, 1940. After 37 years of marriage, Marlin passed on in 1977. They were blessed with five children.
Dorothy worked at Champ Hats for many years, retiring in 1984.
She always considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment, welcoming them home with a big pot of her delicious homemade spaghetti. There was always plenty of room at her table. The family get-togethers also included her entertaining the family by playing the organ. She was a very talented woman and a great lover of the outdoors. She loved nothing better than to rock on her porch watching the wildlife in her backyard and the activity on the river.
Her favorite response, when asked how she was doing, “fat, ragged and sassy” will always be remembered by friends and family. Dot was someone always ready to help, with a quick smile, a happy step and a sunny disposition. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was a long time member of Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church and a dedicated follower of Christ. We celebrate her time with us and know she’s now at peace with our Lord.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Julia and Tom Hearton, of Northumberland, Linda and Ken Williams, of Palm Desert, Calif., Cindy and Ken Ulrich, of Freeburg, and Russell and Leroy Brosious, both of Sunbury; a loving grandmother to Brian and Bret Kerstetter, Pamela Davis, Jodi Hoefler, Kenneth Williams, Shelly Long and Rusty Neidig; great-grandchildren, Tylar and Carter Kerstetter, Matt Davis, Steven and Jonathan Hoefler, Alexandria Long, Ave Marie Long, Mindy Kisner, Seth Kerstetter and Kennedy and Sawyer Neidig; great-great-grandchildren, Rafe Ney, Eben, Christian and DaNel Kisner.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Anna Bartholomew and Amelia Reedy; one brother, Sonny Phillips; and one grandson, Ricky Long.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, 967 Mile Hill Road, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 2. Interment will be in the Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church.
Funeral arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland.
