Henry Bray Benfield

Son of Jacob Benfield, was born in Tredega, Monmothshire, South Wales, on 22 Jul 1858. At the age of 71, he died in Centralia on 20 Feb 1930. Henry came to America at an early age with his Welsh parents and brothers and sisters. They settled near WilkesBarre, PA.

On 3 Jun 1880 when Henry Bray was 21, he married:


Bertha Hannah (Liebau) Benfield

Daughter of Frederick LIEBAU, (1831-) & Amelia DEICHMAN, (1831-). Bertha Hannah was born in Germany on 3 Nov 1860. At the age of 75, she died in Centralia, Columbia County, PA, on 16 Feb 1936.

Family records indicate Bertha Hannah Liebau was born in a town in Germany, along the border between France and Germany, to a German Mother and a French Father. She came with her parents and brothers and sisters at an early age to America.

She was married to Henry Bray Benfield on June 3, 1880; nine children were born to this union:
