Joseph Allen Sr. was the son of Eli Allen and Sarah Griffith. He married Alma Ann Thompson in 1807. They had the following children: Letitia Allen, Ruth Allen Wolf, Sarah Allen Wolf, Eli Allen, Joanna Allen McKee, Joseph Allen Jr. and Barbara Allen.
