HE WAS AWARDED THE CMOH (MEDAL OF HONOR) FOR CAPTURING THE 2ND LOUISANA INFANTRY FLAG IN HAND TO HAND COMBAT MAY 12-1864 AT SPOTSYLVANIA COURT HOUSE.
