AT ONSET OF THE CIVIL WAR SAMUEL ZOOK SERVED FOR 90DAYS IN
THE 6TH NEW YORK MILITIA.
ORGANIZED THE 57TH NEW YORK INFANTRY AND SERVED AS COLONEL.
FOUGHT THROUGH MANY BATTLES PRIOR TO GETTYSBURG AND WAS PROMOTED TO BRIG.GENERAL.
AT GETTYSBURG ON JULY 2ND HE WAS WOUNDED SEVERLY AND DIED OF HIS WOUNDS
ON JULY 3-1863. BURIED NEAR THE GRAVE OF GENERAL HANCOCK.
