Henry was the son of John and Sarah Shoeman of Blair County Pennsylvania. He lived his entire life in Blair County, having been born on March 14, 1827 and died March 7, 1909. He was married to Louisa Smaltz on January 18,1852 and they became the parents of eleven children. Henry was a shoemaker by trade, and later became a weaver when store-bought shoes came into fashion.
