SERVED AS LT.COLONEL IN 102ND NEW YORK INFANTRY.HE WAS WOUNDED AT LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN,TENN. ON NOV.24-1863 IN HIS RIGHT LEG. THE WOUND WAS SERIOUS ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE AMPUTATION OF HIS LEG.HE WAS LATER GIVEN THE RANK OF MAJOR OF THE 7TH VETERAN RESERVE CORPS, A RANK AND POSITION HE HELD UNTIL WARS END.BREVETTED BRIG. AND MAJOR GENERAL OF U.S.VOL. ON MARCH 13-1865
