On 24 Oct 1942 when Francis Eben SR was 21, he married Elizabeth Rozella HUMMER, age 19, daughter of Morris Joseph HUMMER (21 Aug 1883-1 Apr 1958) & Greta Mae SNYDER (8 Mar 1903-20 Feb 1985), in Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA. Elizabeth was born in Rush Township, Sunbury, Northumberland County,PA, on 5 May 1923. Elizabeth was christened in Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA.2

— SHAMOKIN DAM — Elizabeth R. Brosious, 89, of 125 10th Ave., passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.



She was born May 5, 1923, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Morris and Greta (Snyder) Hummer.

She was married to Francis Brosious, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1979.



Elizabeth was a 1941 graduate of Sunbury High School.

She had been employed for 26 years as a secretary at Furman Foods, Northumberland.

She was a member of Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury.



Elizabeth enjoyed embroidery and word puzzles and was faithful in attending each of her grandsons’ baseball games.



She is survived by four children, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Walter Aurand, of Sunbury; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Francis E. Brosious Jr., of Shamokin Dam, Randy and Deborah Brosious, of Shamokin Dam, and George and June Brosious, of Selinsgrove; four grandchildren, Richard Aurand and wife Ginger, Justin Aurand and wife Michelle, Nathan Brosious and wife Tracie and Clinton Brosious; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Kendall and Cole.

She was preceded in death by one son, Keith; two brothers, Joseph and Alvin; and two sisters, Alberta Dunn and Orpha Eyster.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11.

Interment will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations in Elizabeth’s memory to her church.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.

Military Service: Francis was a Corporal in the US Army 12/23/43 to 12/20/45. He served in WWII Hq Btry 16 FA BN. Served in Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. Medals: Good conduct, American Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars. World War II Victory Medal, Bronze Star Medal.

Alert watchman rescues women from tracks

1949 - 50 years ago:

“Mrs. Dora Kransinsky of Mount Carmel was saved from possible death or serious injury by Francis Brosious, Pennsylvania Railroad watchman, on North Third Street, just above Market in Sunbury when she wandered onto the east bound tracks as the Buffalo-Philadelphia express train was about to start out of the station.”

Francis E. Brosious, ex-museum curator

SUNBURY - Francis E. Brosious, 57, of 1248 Highland Ave., a former curator of Fort Augusta Museum, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in his home after a long illness.
He formerly was employed by the former Pennsylvania Railroad.
Born in Sunbury June 6, 1921, he was a son of the late Eben and D. Pearl Apker Brosious. He was married to the former Elizabeth Hummer for the past 36 years.
He was a corporal in the Army during World War II and was awarded the bronze star.
Mr. Brosious was a member of the Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, an elder of the church, a member of the church building committee and a teacher in the Sunday school; a secretary of the Central Penn Christian Training Institute; affiliated with the Youth for Christ and the Christian Businessmen’s Association Sunbury; and past president of the 7th Ward PTA. He also coached Quadraleague Baseball for 15 years and served as president of the Quadraleague Parents Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are the following children, Mrs. Karen Aurand, Francis Brosious Jr. and George Brosious, all of Sunbury, Keith Brosious of Selinsgrove and Randy Brosious of Northumberland; two grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters, Lloyd Brosious of Vestal, N.Y., Earl Brosious and Mrs. Ruth Brown, both of Sunbury, and Paul Brosious of Shrub Oak, N.Y.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Emmanuel Bible Fellowship church by the Rev. Leroy S. Heller. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, sunbury.
Friends may call in the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, Sunbury, Friday evening.
